چکیده
REZUMAT Endocrinology Department, Gr.T.Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi, Romania Osteoporoza este o boal\ endocrin\. Osteoporosis is a endocrine disease. Endocrine factors have a major impact in all types of osteoporosis. The endocrinologist has to be part of specialists’ team taking care of osteoporotic patient. The authors review the main methods for the assessment of bone mineral density, a key element in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Several aspects are presented: BMD indications, methods, bone sites to be measured, risk prediction, instruments quality, reproductibility, quality control. Personal data concerning DXA vs. QUS comparison are presented.

Using a cluster sampling method, a group of menopausal women from three geographic areas in Tehran were asked to participate in the study. Demographic data was obtained using a questionnaire. Subjects were than referred to perform bone mass densitometry (BMD). The relationship between various variables (i.e. age of menarche, number of years of endogenous estrogen exposure, ... ) with minera...
متن کاملRelationship of Weight and Body Mass Index with Femur and Lumbar Vertebrae Bone Mineral Density and Content in Premenopausal Women
Purpose: Given that weight and body mass index (BMI) are considered as modifiable factors in osteoporosis, the present study aimed to examine the relationship of weight and BMI with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) at the femur and lumbar vertebrae in perimenopausal women. Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, we measured the bone density of the femur and...

Introduction: Osteoporosis and periodontitis are types of diseases that their prevalence increases with age and bone loss is one of the common features of these two diseases. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between bone mineral density and periodontitis in females over 40 years Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 333 females were enrolled for osteopor...
متن کاملA national random survey of bone mineral density reporting in the United States.
The rapidly evolving technology of bone mineral density (BMD) testing has revolutionized the clinical care of osteoporosis; however, at present, there are no guidelines for BMD reporting. A survey was mailed to a random sample of bone densitometry centers in the United States registered in the National Osteoporosis Foundation database in order to evaluate the practice of BMD reporting in the Un...
متن کاملComparison of Bone Mineral Density Measured by Dual X-ray, Axial Dual-energy Photon X-ray Absorptiometry and Laser Absorptiometry of Calcaneus
The objective of this study was to validate the use of bone mineral measurements of the calcaneus bone by dual X-ray and laser (DXL) in a cross-sectional study carried out in an osteoporosis clinic. Measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) at proximal femur and spine were obtained by dual-energy photon X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Osteoporosis was defined by a DEXA T-score <-2.5 at the femora...
